There is a Time for Everything
Inspiration for your current season, no matter which one you're in.
It seems like summer is often a time of change, perhaps especially for us young people: internships, new jobs, or, in my case this year, moving a few counties over and becoming a first-time homeowner. Whether you’re in the middle of a change you’re excited about or apprehensive for, or you’re not experiencing change when you wish you were, this week I’m sharing some inspiration I’ve found meaningful on the various seasons of life we find ourselves in. The first, a passage from the book of Ecclesiastes, has brought me peace in knowing it can be not just acceptable, but good, to experience different emotions and take different actions depending on the context and circumstances of our lives. The second piece I’m sharing is a beautiful speech my dear friend Anna gave several years ago, which speaks to the depth of meaning to be found in our various seasons. I hope you find it to be as life-giving as I do.
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.- Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
