Any of y’all ever feel like life is hard? It’s good, it’s rewarding, it’s fun, but sometimes in the midst of all the goodness, it’s still just difficult. Yet, as I’ve shared in many different ways over the last several years on this platform, I think the beauty of life is found in the difficulty, in the challenges we face. This, my friends, is the first lesson of life illustrated in the sport of powerlifting: lifting heavy is hard, but that’s the point.
Over the next several weeks, I’d like to invite you to join me in my training sessions… just kidding. But, I do want to invite you to take a peek into some of my internal dialogue during my training sessions. As I work my way to new maxes in the gym, I’m seeing parallels in the struggles I face in life, whether it’s the interpersonal dynamics with new customers in my job or knowing how to embrace rest in my personal life.
To kick off this series, I’m pulling a post out of the archives. Just over a year ago, I completed in my first powerlifting competition, and one of the very first life lessons I learned from the sport was that we often self-eliminate for no good reason.
